Farm Bureau announces candidate endorsements for Aug. 2 primary election

Date Posted: June 13, 2022

Michigan Farm Bureau’s AgriPac announced Monday its roster of candidates selected to receive the Friend of Agriculture designation and the organization’s endorsement in the Aug. 2 primary election.

AgriPac Chair and Washtenaw County farmer Mike Fusilier said it’s paramount that Farm Bureau members participate in the 2022 elections.

“Amid recent redistricting, numerous politically divisive issues and an abundance of open seats in the Legislature, our voice — representing our families, farms and rural communities — is more important than ever before,” Fusilier said.

He explained how Michigan Farm Bureau’s grassroots endorsement process vets candidates to determine their ability to craft and vote on legislative and regulatory proposals that enable the agriculture sector to thrive.

“Our local candidate evaluation committees — comprised of farmers — conduct candidate interviews, review candidate questionnaires and consider incumbents’ voting records before they recommend who should receive endorsement by AgriPac.”

“And AgriPac is a nonpartisan political action committee,” Fusilier said.

Michigan voters will select individuals to serve in the following offices during the 2022 election cycle: Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Michigan Supreme Court (two seats), MSU Board of Trustees (two seats), Congress (13 seats), Michigan Senate (38 seats), Michigan House of Representatives (110 seats) and numerous local positions.

"We need leaders in all branches of government who understand, appreciate and respect agriculture's contribution to the state’s economy,” MFB’s elections expert Matt Kapp said. “For more than 40 years, that’s been one of our organization’s top priorities."
