‘Spring Up For Hunger’ raising food, awareness in Tuscola

“The idea is to utilize all eight agencies as drop points for food donations, then have them pick whatever local group could most benefit in their communities.”

We’re calling it “Spring Up For Hunger”: Tuscola County Farm Bureau is reaching out to consumers in the month of March with some 15-second TV spots.

We were able to get all eight of our county’s Farm Bureau Insurance agents to go together on an advertising budget. We contacted a local TV station — WNEM 5 in Saginaw — to have them produce 15-second commercials showcasing our drive.

We’re also targeting Facebook posts in each area to remind members about our goal — posts that’ll link to WNEM’s website.

The idea is to utilize all eight agencies as drop points for food donations, then have them pick whatever local group could most benefit from them in their communities.

As a first-year idea we’ll see how this goes.

Five of our board members recently volunteered at a food pantry in Caro. We did this last summer for the first time and decided to also add a winter/spring date.

Later this year Tuscola County Farm Bureau’s also planning two member events:

We have a country music performance booked for our June 28 Barn Bash, and are looking into hosting some local food trucks as well.

Then on Aug. 7 will be our Great Lakes Loons night; we booked the Northern lights Pavilion. This’ll be the second year of what we hope becomes an annual event. Last year we had 75 attend and hope for more this year!

P.S.: Our P&E committee has also been busy planning a college career night at the Tuscola County Tech Center. We’re bringing in ag-related local businesses to meet with high schoolers, talk about their needs and what career opportunities they have to offer. Last year we had record attendance for both businesses and students!
