Spring FARM Crates a hit in Lake City

Chelsea Root's fourth-graders in Lake City took home some valuable ag lessons from a seasonal FARM Crate from Farm Bureau.

Early this spring I met with Lake City Elementary fourth-grade teacher Chelsea Root about trying out FARM Crates for her classroom.

She promptly got back to me and together we ordered the “Farm Fresh Sounds of the Season” crate for her class; she was impressed with all it offered for her students!

“With the FARM Crate our class had the ability to learn how farmers work to protect their animals throughout the four seasons,” Root said. “After learning from the lesson content, our class planned and created farm posters and dioramas.

“The students had so much fun using their creativity to plan and create their farms. Watching the videos, reading the AG Mag — and the book that was included — really helped to bring the lessons to life for my students and keep them engaged.”

“From the teacher’s standpoint, the lessons are engaging and interesting for my students. The fact that I can electronically link to the lesson plan and handouts in my digital lesson plan platform — allowing my administrators to easily see what our daily science lesson plans will entail — has been very beneficial.”

She said she’s eager to see what this fall’s FARM Crates have in store for her students.

“I’m excited to incorporate more of these lessons into my curriculum next year!”

As a Promotion & Education volunteer with my county Farm Bureau (Missaukee), this was a highlight for me this spring, to have another classroom using the FARM Crates and enjoy them so much!  Chelsea Root has been a great teacher to work with — lots of enthusiasm — and she passes that excitement onto her students!
