Did you know most of the wheat used to make Triscuit crackers is grown right here in Michigan?

Fifth generation farmer Rita Herford does, because she’s one of the many people in Michigan’s thumb area who grow the wheat used to make the iconic woven wheat crackers. Her story is now being featured in a video from Kroger and Triscuit as part of their support of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture.

“It’s a really fulfilling lifestyle that we have, knowing that we planted a seed that grew into something abundant and it's going to end up on my dinner plate,” said Herford, a Huron County Farm Bureau member.

Kroger and Triscuit have stepped up to support agricultural literacy through their partnership with the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, with Triscuit showcasing the farmers who grow the ingredients in their products and Kroger connecting customers with their food and farmers who grow it.

“The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture is excited to have Kroger and Triscuit’s support as we share agriculture’s story with consumers throughout Michigan,” said Michigan Foundation for Agriculture Development Manager Kate Thiel. “Together we’re working to enhance agricultural literacy and telling folks how agriculture touches their daily lives. This is a great way to showcase support of our farmers and a Michigan sourced product in Triscuit.”

As Kroger noted, letting local farmers have an outlet to grow and advance their business is a win-win for everyone.

“At Kroger, we proudly champion local products and the farmers behind them,” said Cam Barrett, corporate affairs manager for the Kroger Co. of Michigan. “The dedication and hard work of farmers is the backbone of our mission to provide fresh, quality products to every table. We're deeply appreciative of their collaboration in feeding and fostering vibrant communities.”
