Gladwin County Farm Bureau was excited to be part of Gladwin Fun Days, July 9 at the city park in — you guessed it — Gladwin.

The event normally consists of a craft fair, sidewalk sales and fun family activities. This year it added a small-scale Project RED hosted by our county Farm Bureau staff and volunteers.

“We were excited to see about 150 people come through our booth to learn more about local agriculture and Gladwin County Farm Bureau,” said Sonya Novotny, northeast regional manager for Michigan Farm Bureau.

Half a dozen individual learning stations introduced visitors to working with rabbits, making your own dryer balls from freshly shorn sheep’s wool and making wildflower seed bombs — which conveniently included a lesson in pollination.

Other activities included planting corn in an ice-cream cone, learning about the many products made from corn, exploring the most important parts of a dairy cow using Molly, a plywood bovine, and making butter in a jar!
