More than 150 Farm Bureau Insurance agents and volunteers received Key Club awards Nov. 29 during Michigan Farm Bureau’s 104th State Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids.

Key Club recipients sign up five or more Farm Bureau regular members in a membership year. From 2022-23, 156 people reached this threshold. A regular member is defined as someone involved in production agriculture.

Since 1982, Key Club agents and volunteers have written thousands of new farmer members into the organization. Over that time, agents and volunteers brought in 2,452 new regular members, which is 135 more than the previous year.

“Key Club agents and volunteers are the main connection to our new members,” said Stephanie Schafer (Clinton County), District 5 director on the Michigan Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

“They build strong relationships with these members, helping them understand the purpose and are in are an excellent source for volunteers and attendees for specific events. Key Club members are their membership writers out there saying I understand the value of a farmer membership.”

For the fourth year in a row, total regular membership grew at 41,618.
