Michigan Farm Bureau’s AgriPac supports Lynn Afendoulis to represent District 81 in Kent County as a state representative in the Nov. 8 general election.

The former director of government relations and vice president for UFP Industries Foundation, Afendoulis said her background in business will help curb governmental overreach and “get spending under control.”

She previously served as a state representative for Michigan’s 73rd District from 2019-20.

“I am concerned that the influx of federal dollars during and since Covid are creating a new spending floor that is unsustainable and unnecessary,” Afendoulis said.

“We must promote a strong business environment to attract and retain all kinds of industries. We must find funding to fix and sustain a strong infrastructure. We must get out of the way of manufacturing, farming, small business, and other operations that need less regulation and a better environment for growth. We must address our failing education system with a commitment to innovation and to our children. And, with our children in mind, we must change the tenor of government and politics by modeling civility in all we do and respect for everyone.”

Afendoulis also served the Michigan Transportation Commission for two terms.

She said the biggest obstacles facing Michigan farmers include labor, taxes, and, among other items, the environment.

“I would rely upon experts at the Farm Bureau and elsewhere to help me understand and prioritize the needs of Michigan’s diverse and vibrant farming industry, which is critical not just to the state, but the nation,” Afendoulis added. “I imagine that among the top issues for Michigan farmers must be labor, inflation and the costs of running a farm, farmland (finding it and making it affordable to maintain as farmland, and generational issues), and the regulatory environment.”

Afendoulis is endorsed by the Associated Builders and Contractors and Small Business Administration of Michigan.
