The Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) family of companies is once again launching its Million Meals Challenge, aiming to donate more than a million meals to the seven Michigan regional food banks, serving all of the state’s 83 counties.

In the spring, the MFB family of companies announced the organization's commitment to their For-Purpose mission of ending childhood hunger in Michigan. To support this colossal effort, MFB will be teaming up with the Agent Charitable Fund in their third annual Million Meals Challenge by matching all online donations, up to $70,000, turning every $1 donated into $3.

Last year this impactful campaign raised more than $203,000 — each dollar of which provided five meals to Michigan families in need.

This year’s campaign runs through the month of October, concluding Friday, Oct. 28. Donate here.

Farm Bureau members are encouraged to select their district page to donate through under the “teams” menu by scrolling down on the left side of the donation page.

The Million Meal Challenge began in 2020, donating over one million meals to families in need at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Estimates show food insecurity increased to approximately 1.9 million people in Michigan, including 552,000, children in 2020. Even after the pandemic, the number of Michiganders facing food insecurity continues to grow and is especially prevalent in Michigan’s rural communities.

“Members of the Michigan Farm Bureau family go above and beyond to feed, fuel, provide for and protect Michigan,” said MFB President Carl Bednarski, a Tuscola County farmer.

“This fundraiser has surpassed its goal of funding one million meals for the last two years and we hope to build upon the momentum in 2022 by engaging more of our agents, employees, county Farm Bureaus, members and clients in the effort.”

Defined by its mission to end hunger in Michigan, the Agent Charitable Fund is a donor-designated fund administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)(3) governed by the MFB Board of Directors. Through grant programs and donations, Farm Bureau agents, clients and partners provide food and educational programs to Michigan residents struggling with hunger and aid more than 3,000 hunger-relief agencies statewide.
