Clinton Young Farmer toy drive gifts young cancer patients

Young Farmers in Clinton County coordinated a wildly successful toy-donation drive for patients at Sparrow Hospital's pediatric oncology center.

Clinton County’s Young Farmers were hard at work in November, getting into the Christmas spirit a little early!

In partnership with the St. Johns Tractor Supply Company, the Young Farmers placed a box for ag toy donations near the store’s entrance front door of the store early on in November. The challenge? To gather donated ag-themed toys and take them to the Sparrow’s pediatric oncology center.

With support from their members and the community, the box began to fill with toy tractors, trailers, horses and more. It filled up in only a couple days, after which the Young Farmers were called in to drop off a second!

At the end of two weeks, the group met to pick up their boxes of toys and headed to the hospital, where they met with the children’s oncology unit to drop off their donations.

To celebrate they set off for Frankenmuth for some holiday shopping at the World’s Largest Christmas Store and a famous chicken dinner.

Spearheading the effort were Allison Schafer, Andrew Braun and Kyle Schafer, but plenty more warm-hearted Young Farmers and community members contributed to the effort.
